THE LONG WAIT · 2025

Philadelphia's Suburban DIII League

The Middle Atlantic Conference spans the Philadelphia suburbs and the Pennsylvania-New Jersey corridor — Delaware Valley, Widener, Albright, Elizabethtown, Lebanon Valley, Lycoming, Messiah, Misericordia, DeSales, Eastern, FDU-Florham, Keystone, King's, Moravian, and Wilkes — competing in one of the country's most densely populated DIII recruiting markets. The MAC is the conference closest to the Centennial's academic identity but with a broader footprint, drawing from South Jersey, the Lehigh Valley, and the Delaware Valley in a market that produces more DIII-caliber players per square mile than any comparable region outside of New Jersey.

The MAC's Commonwealth and Freedom divisions have produced different champions in recent years. Does Delaware Valley or Widener consolidate the conference in 2026, or does the MAC's competitive depth produce a new bracket representative?

Three Things to Watch

The ProgramDelaware Valley: Doylestown's DIII Standard

Delaware Valley University in Doylestown, Pennsylvania has been the Middle Atlantic Conference's most consistently competitive program, drawing from the Bucks County and Montgomery County markets — among the most productive DIII recruiting corridors in the country. The Aggies compete with a program that reflects DVal's agricultural and science identity, drawing players from the same prep schools and public high schools that feed Penn and Temple at the FBS level. Delaware Valley's access to the Philadelphia suburban pipeline makes them the MAC's most difficult team to outrecruit.

The RivalWidener: Chester's Working-Class Program

Widener University in Chester, Pennsylvania recruits from Delaware County and the Philadelphia Southeastern suburbs — a working-class football culture that produces physical players and offensive linemen at the rate the MAC's style demands. The Pride compete with a program that has won MAC titles and appeared in the DIII bracket, drawing from a community where football is not a liberal arts activity but a civic identity. When Widener's offensive line is controlling games and their defense is physical, they are the MAC's most difficult matchup in November.

Wild CardLycoming: Williamsport's Program in the Mountains

Lycoming College in Williamsport, Pennsylvania recruits from north-central Pennsylvania's football corridor — a region that produces linemen and linebackers from the mountains and the Susquehanna Valley at a rate that larger programs frequently overlook. The Warriors compete in the MAC with a physical style that matches the north-central Pennsylvania tradition, and their campus in Williamsport gives them a recruiting identity separate from the conference's Philadelphia-centric programs. In a year when the MAC's top programs are rebuilding, Lycoming is the program most capable of a bracket-qualifying run from the conference's northern tier.
