Bryce Young

Alabama Saban Era · 2021

The smallest Heisman quarterback in the trophy's history and the most precise pocket operator the era has produced.

2021 Heisman · 4,872 yards · 47 TD · 7 INT · 167.5 RTGN

Bryce Young won the Heisman at 5'10" and 194 pounds with a margin of 1,242 first-place votes — the largest margin in eight years — and he did it by locating throws no one else on Alabama's roster was capable of locating. The 2021 SEC Championship against Georgia is the master tape: 421 yards, three touchdowns, the Saban-Smart rivalry's first proof that the chair could move under pressure. The only reason 2021 isn't a national title is the rematch in Indianapolis a month later, when the Georgia defense — finally healthy and with the run-game in starting form — flipped the geometry. The 2022 season added arrhythmia to the legend: a sprained shoulder he played through, a Tennessee game he lost on the road for the first time, and the lingering question of whether the frame could survive the NFL. The frame question belongs to Carolina now. The Alabama record stands.
