Baker Mayfield
Oklahoma Stoops/Riley Era · 2014–2017Walked on at Texas Tech, transferred to Oklahoma, won the 2017 Heisman, and gave the era its first Big-12-quarterback-as-portrait.
2017 Heisman · 12,292 career pass yds · 131 TD · 30 INT
Mayfield's 2017 — 4,627 yards, 43 touchdowns, six interceptions, an Orange Bowl loss to Georgia in the Playoff semifinal that ended his career — is the Heisman season where the trophy belonged to the argument as much as the line. He arrived at Oklahoma as a walk-on who'd already started at Texas Tech, a circumstance that is now in the trivia book and was, at the time, in the why-this-shouldn't-work column. The Browns took him first overall in 2018; the Buccaneers have him on the back end of a career that has finally settled. The Oklahoma legacy is intact.
